Features

Spec-related

  • The new Spec Cost Updating add-on easily updates your specs’ unit cost pricing based on your personal line-item bid data. Get more information and screenshots.
  • In the Costs tab for a spec, mark spec to be excluded from cost updates when using the Spec Cost Updating add-on. This will typically be used for custom specs and allowances.
  • Set Unit Cost for spec to “No costs are associated with this specification,” used mostly for some General Requirement specs. These specs appear on Specs by Location and Specs by Trade reports with Unit Price and Total Price as N/A but are filtered out of Bid Input and Draw Tracking.
  • Two new Checklists: “Single Family Rehab” and “Single Family Rehab (no basement).” If you are upgrading to HDP 3.5.12 and already had HDP on your computer, these Checklists will not automatically import but are available for download.
  • When adding specs to a Checklist, search by spec title.
  • Minor spelling and language corrections have been made to some specs in the Library.
  • Updated several lead specs and removed “GCI” from the title of Green Communities specs. If you are upgrading to HDP 3.5.12 and already had HDP on your computer, these spec changes will not automatically import but should be available for download soon.

Bids tab; Bidding

  • The Bids tab has been restructured. Bid Requests are created to define a scope of work which bids are then “filed” under. Bid Requests define what the work involves (a list of selected trades or all trades) and what level of detail the bids are to include (by line-item, by trade, or a total contract amount). Bid Requests also include the “Bidding Opens” and “Bidding Closes” dates for the corresponding work, any bidding instructions, and a Pre-bid Site Visit date (formerly Walk-Through date) if applicable.
  • Each Bid Request has a Bidding Instructions tab where you can enter a Pre-bid Site Visit date and time (formerly Walk-Through date and time) if applicable and any necessary bidding instructions. New “Bid Instructions (Custom)” report references Bidding Instructions from the Bid Request.
  • Enter bids by line-item in addition to the previous options of trade totals or entire contract.
  • Bid Input screen now features a running total of the bid as it is entered.
  • Field added to Bid Input to record time of day a bid was received.
  • Warning added to Bid Input if any part of a bid has been left blank.
  • “Walk-through date” has become “pre-bid site visit” and “site visit” has become “bidder’s pre-bid site visit.”
  • Winning line-item bidding items automatically populate in Pre-Draw Analysis.
  • Warning added when awarding contract to bid if bid and scope of work are $0.

Reports

  • New Bid Comparison report shows a side-by-side comparison of bids (and your cost estimate) under the same Bid Request.
  • Reports window recalls the last address worked on and populates it in Select Address drop-down menus.
  • In the header for Specs by Location and Specs by Trade reports, removed “Work write-up/re-bid” and “Walk-through date;” added “Bidding Opens date” and “Bidding Closes date.”
  • Header information is only on first page of Specs by Location and Specs by Trade reports.
  • In the Specs by Location and Specs by Trade reports, contractor signature has been removed from each Location or Trade; only one signature is required at the end of the scope of work. Each Location or Trade still has a field for Location Total or Trade Total (dollar amount).
  • Project Manager field in Address Properties and Construction Specialist field in Specs by Location and Specs by Trade are now both Project Manager.
  • Added drop-down menus to several reports to be able to drill into more detailed information.
  • 'All' is no longer an option in Select Address drop-down menus in Reports.
  • RTF-formatted reports open in WordPad to offer additional options such as printing and formatting.
  • RTF tags tool bar has a “Bid Request tags” section for Bid Request Name, Bidding Opens Date, Bidding Opens Time, Bidding Closes Date, Bidding Closes time, Pre-bid Site Visit Date (formerly Walk-Through Date), Pre-bid Site Visit Time (formerly Walk-Through Time), and Bidding Instructions.
  • Added Case Number to RTF tags options.
  • Date tags in RTF have options for Today’s Date and Prompted Date.
  • Added Contingency Amount to Draw History report.
  • In the “Notice to Proceed” report, the Rehab Specialist field has changed to Project Manager (referenced from Address Properties).

Admin

  • Windows 7 Operating System is supported; installer reflects that.
  • *Units of Measure C and DR have both become EA (Each).
  • *Added BF (Board Foot) to Units of Measure.
  • *Added “Real Estate Agent” to Contact Type; Contact Type is now customizable in Global Lists.
  • Record cell phone number of a contact in the Contact Manager.

*Items marked with (*) are changes that will not appear if you are upgrading to HDP 3.5.12 on a computer that already has a previous version of HDP; this is a precaution to prevent overwriting your data.

  • Spell Check recognizes common rehabilitation industry terms.
  • Spell Check dialog box confirms when spell check is complete.

Resolved Issues

Spec-related

  • Library of Specs did not recalculate total unit cost if a different tab was clicked on after modifying an item in the cost tab.
  • When importing, if none of the specs to import conflicted with existing specs, HDP mistakenly believed that there was nothing to import.
  • Some specs’ Unit Price did not account for “adjustment to total cost.”
  • A copied and edited spec still showed the original spec in preview.
  • The Checklist Editor allowed adding more than one instance of the same spec in the same Location of a Checklist.
  • “Utility Room” Location Name was not assigned to a default Location Type.

Contracts tab; Draws and Change Orders

  • If Draws type was Variable, HDP required address to have Draws in place.
  • Unable to save selection of Variable draws in Draw Wizard.
  • Pre-draw Tracking required you to enter a price in, even if the contract amount/allocated amount was $0.
  • If Draws type was Variable and with no regularly-scheduled draws, the draw wizard re-opened when creating an on-demand draw.
  • If Draws were by trade and the last item in a draw would exceed the draw amount, HDP didn’t allow a completed spec to carry over from one draw to another.
  • When trying to add to or remove from a spec that is already on a change order, HDP forced you to edit the existing item instead of allowing you to create a new one which offset the cost of the contract.
  • Contract Price in Contracts tab did not refer to original contract amount.
  • Total allocation of Draws sometimes did not equal contract amount.

Reports

  • Exporting a scope of work to PDF sometimes lost part of a spec at page break.
  • Page Break tags for RTF reports did not work.
  • “Edit Custom RTF Properties” window did not allow a report name greater than 30 characters.
  • Cost Estimate report aggregated Custom specs together.
  • Cost Estimate report cut off Unit Cost and Total Cost amounts six digits or greater.
  • Cost Estimate report’s Quantity column was too narrow.
  • “Notice to Proceed with Bid” limited contractor options.
  • “Notice to Proceed with Bid” report populated incorrect contractor name.
  • Cover Page report didn’t load company contact info.
  • Date tag in RTF reports didn’t populate.
  • “Notice to Proceed” report inserted an incorrect contract name.
  • If selected “All” addresses for Specs by Location or Specs by Trade, the report showed all addresses in HDP instead of all addresses in an Address Group.
  • A Custom report could only be added to the “Other/Custom” tab of Reports; can now be added to any tab.
  • Checklist Spec Listing report showed specs once for each time they were listed in a Checklist which created unnecessary multiples.
  • After closing an RTF report and going back to the Reports menu, the RTF buttons still appeared regardless of report format.

Admin

  • Drop-down menu in Customer section of Contact Manager did not save selection if the menu had a blank option.
  • When importing, the “Auto-Detect Location of previous HDP database” checkbox did not auto-detect unless checkbox was unchecked; checking the box allowed you to manually locate your database.

Other

  • Some drop-down menus weren’t alphabetized.
  • Spell Check in the Addendum field did not change the misspelled word when a correctly-spelled word was selected.
  • Copy Location button created several copies.
  • In a copied address, Locations were rearranged.
  • The window scrollbar on the Welcome screen was not always visible, depending on your computer and monitor settings.
  • Installer could not complete if HDP was running; installer now checks if HDP is running and alerts you.
